ByteSized ("the app", "we", "us") is a language-learning app. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how you can delete it. If anything here is unclear, email us at anartzuyu@gmail.com.

Information we collect

Creating an account requires an email address, a password, and the name you enter. We use Firebase Authentication (a Google service) to handle this — your password is never stored or seen by us directly.

Once signed in, we store the following in our database (Google Cloud Firestore), tied to your account:

• Your chosen native language and the language you're learning
• The topics/interests you pick, used to personalize your feed
• Words you've tapped or saved, and your practice/quiz history
• Facts you've saved or liked
• Your streak, level, XP, and daily reading progress

How your content is generated

To generate your fact feed, live news, research answers, and Shredder summaries, the app sends your chosen language(s), topics, and — for Research/Shredder — the text or question you type, to Google's Gemini AI (via Firebase AI Logic) to produce a response. This is necessary for the app's core features to work.

Advertising

The app shows ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect a device advertising identifier and use cookies/similar technology to serve and measure ads, per Google's own ad policies. We don't control what AdMob collects beyond what Google's SDK does by default.

What we don't do

We don't use any analytics or behavioral-tracking SDK, and we don't sell your data to anyone. The only third parties involved are Google (Firebase, for authentication/storage/AI, and AdMob, for ads), both disclosed above.

Security

All traffic between the app and our servers runs over HTTPS/TLS. Server-side security rules ensure your data can only be read or written by your own signed-in account.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account from inside the app: Profile → Delete account. This immediately and permanently removes your progress, word bank, saved facts, and account — this can't be undone. You can also email us to request deletion.

Children

ByteSized is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
